And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus

Who are we?

We are a warm, friendly, welcoming church with people of all ages and backgrounds. We love people and live to make a difference where we live by sharing the love of Jesus in both word and action.

Champion Church’s Vision

We describe our vision with the word R.A.C.E. (Relationship / All Scripture / Community / Equipping) and it is birthed from the following scripture:

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Hebrews 12:1-3

RELATIONSHIP

A restored, living relationship with God through Jesus. We also value real relationships with one another.

ALL SCRIPTURE

We believe the Bible; we teach the Bible and we will encourage you to dive into your Bible.

COMMUNITY

We are not meant to run this race alone. Church is a family where we encourage and support one another

EQUIPPING

We want every believer to be equipped to grow and serve, discovering their God-given gifts and calling.

Our Leaders

Michael is Champions Church’s minister. He was born and raised in Nottingham where he worked in horticulture until being called to ministry and studied at Mattersey Hall Bible College. After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Christian Leadership from the University of Wales, Michael relocated to Skipton and became minister at Champions Church in 2012. Michael also has obtained an MA in Practical Theology from the University of Chester. He is an accredited Minister with Assemblies of God Great Britain. Michael is passionate about seeing people equipped and also in raising leaders. Michael enjoys holidays in the UK and abroad, visiting stately homes, DIY projects, watching a good movie and cats.

Michael is married to JJ, a Filipino, full of joy, immensely creative, who enjoys cooking, exploring the beauty of Yorkshire and meeting up with friends. She has a degree in Behavioural Sciences from the University of the Philippines in Manila and was a teacher at an International School in Dongguan, China prior to joining Michael in the UK. JJ currently works full time at a building society in mortgage services. JJ currently oversees our AV desk, worship planning and treasury.

Michael and JJ have a beautiful little girl who enjoys nursery, Mini Champions Parent and Toddler Group, being part of children’s ministry on Sundays, wellies, meals at home and meals out, singing and meeting up with her friends.

Statement of Faith

Read what we believe about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, and other significant aspects of our faith. Our beliefs guide our decisions as a church.

We believe that the Bible (i.e. the Old and New Testaments excluding the Apocrypha), is the inspired Word of God, the infallible, all sufficient rule for faith and practice.

2 Timothy 3:15-16; 2 Peter 1:21

Genesis 1:26-31, 3:1-7; Romans 5:12-21

We believe in salvation through faith in Christ, who, according to the Scriptures, died for our sins, was buried and was raised from the dead on the third day, and that through His sacrifice on the cross we can have a relationship with God the Father.

Titus 2:11, 3:5-7; Romans 10:8-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

Matthew 28:19; Acts 10:47-48; Acts 2:38-39

We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit for every believer with power for service, the essential, biblical evidence of which is the speaking with other tongues as the Spirit enables.

Acts 1:4-5, 8, 2:4, 10:44-46, 11:14-16, 19:6

We believe in the operation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of Christ in the Church today.
